This 3-night trip is a beginner level trip that can accommodate 16 people.

Accommodation:

There are 4 glamping-style cabins reserved for this trip. Each cabin has a fully equipped bathroom and kitchen. There are a different configuration of beds in each cabin - you may register for your preferred sleeping arrangement via our booking platform.

The lodging reserved for this trip is located near the Shenandoah River in Virginia - about a 2 hour drive from Washington DC. Participants should be prepared for some driving/commuting over the course of the weekend to reach the hikes and activities planned in the itinerary.

Trip Activities + Difficulty Level:

This is a Beginner level trip - the hikes planned are slightly challenging, but can be done by participants with limited hiking experience. All Ma'wa Collective Trip Itineraries include a variety of hikes, scenic walks and/or drives, spiritual reflections and discussions, and group meals and activities. Some itinerary highlights include:

  • 🌿 Hike to Dark Hollow Falls – A short but rewarding walk to one of the park’s most stunning waterfalls.

  • 🌅 Sunrises & Sunsets at Iconic Viewpoints – Witness golden-hour magic at Hawksbill Mountain and Stony Man Overlook.

  • 🚣‍♀️ River Tubing Down the Shenandoah River – Relax and float through scenic waters right in front of your glamping tents.

  • 🥾 Trek a Section of the Appalachian Trail – Hike to Mary’s Rock, a hidden gem with panoramic views.

  • 🚗 Scenic Drives Through Shenandoah – Enjoy winding roads and breathtaking overlooks on the Skyline Drive.

Note 1: our itinerary may be subject to slight changes throughout the weekend due to delays, weather, or factors outside of our control.

Note 2: All Ma'wa Collective trips are considered group trips - as a participant, you will be expected to remain with your group at all times. Participants are not permitted to leave the group and engage in activities outside the published itinerary. Any participant found in violation of this may be subject to dismissal from the trip and/or future Ma'wa Collective trips.

Shajeeah Mumtaz

Trip Lead

Shajeeah is a Pakistani Muslim-American photographer and an outdoors adventure explorer. She comes alive in places that make her feel small, and is passionate about the preservation and conservation of the wilderness and the wildlife. She has backpacked in 8 states, including Yosemite and Maine’s iconic 100-Mile Wilderness, and has trekked ~500 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Recently, she summited a volcano in Ecuador and swam with 6-feet-long sea turtles and all colors of underwater reef life in the Galapagos Islands. When she is home, she is chasing her interstellar dreams as a test lead and engineer on NASA’s Roman Space Telescope.

What's Included

Trip registration includes lodging, food, and coordinated activities throughout the weekend.

Transportation is NOT included in your registration or covered by Ma'wa Collective:

  • It is the responsibility of participants to do their due diligence to check on travel logistics before signing up for the trip. This includes checking flight availability and pricing if you are not local to the area. If you will be flying in for this trip, we recommend flying into Dulles International Airport (IAD): arrival must be no later than 2pm on Friday, May 30th, and departure no earlier than 2pm on Monday, June 2nd. Please note that all participants must arrive to the cabin site before sunset in order to safely check in and access the cabins.


  • Carpools: While we can assist with arranging carpools among participants, we cannot guarantee that every Trip will have local participants that are able to volunteer their personal cars and offer a carpool. In some cases, a rental car may be the only option for carpooling. Some participants will need to volunteer as drivers for the rentals and the cost of the rental car is not covered by Ma’wa Collective.
